The Process: How we transform a tub from old to new
- A single bathtub takes approximately 2 – 3 hours.
- A tub and surrounding tile takes approximately 3 – 4 hours.
- Curing time for all jobs = 24 hours before first use.
Preparation:
-
- Scrape down the tub to remove dirt and surface debris.
If the tub has been refinished before and the previous finish has failed it will need to be fully stripped off. There is an additional charge for this service. In many cases the previous finish is fine and can be sanded (called a “mechanical strip”) and sprayed over. This is a judgment call on a case by case basis. - Remove and clean loose caulk around tub.
- Scrape down the tub to remove dirt and surface debris.
Preparation
- Thoroughly sand down surface to get rid of any soap scum.
- Acid wash the surface to etch and ensure a good bond.
- Repair any chips or rust spots.
- Wipe tub and clean with acetone.
- Wipe down tub with a bonding agent.
Final surface finishing:
8. Coat with primer.
9. Cover with final urethane epoxy finish.
10. Caulk around the edge of tub as needed.
Our 5-Year Warranty:
The Tub Guys Warranty covers all materials and labor for 5 full years. We stand behind this warranty, provided the customer follows these simple care guidelines:
- Let the new finish cure (become completely hard) for at least a 24-hours after it is applied. Do not touch or place anything on the new surface during this time.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or tools to clean your refinished surfaces. Abrasives can damage the finish and shorten its lifespan. Regular non-abrasive cleaners will keep your surfaces clean and looking great for years to come.
